CCO plans for CDEO courses or products

We are working to ensure we have a full course, a blitz, and practice exams for all of the AAPC core credentials.  So, yes – we do eventually plan to offer courses and products for the CDEO.  However, at this time our SMEs are working on developing courses for a few other core credentials first and working to obtain the CDEO credential themselves so they are better equipped to teach the material.

According to the AAPC (https://www.aapc.com/certification/cdeo/), the CDEO exam covers each of the following areas:

  • Purpose of CDI (8 questions)
  • Provider Communication and Compliance (15 questions)
  • Clinical Conditions (45 questions)
  • Diagnosis Coding (22 questions)
  • Documentation Requirements (15 questions)
  • Payment Models (8 questions)
  • Procedure Coding (22 questions)
  • Quality Measures (15 questions)

Like most of the AAPC’s other certification exams, the CDEO is comprised of 150 multiple choice questions and has a 5 hour 40 minute time limit.

In order to sit for the CDEO, one must have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology and disease process, among other things.  We recommend starting with courses in medical terminology, anatomy, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding if you do not already have a strong understanding of those skills.

We choose CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment as our optional reference book – it was very helpful!
