Q&A Best certification for a future Family Medicine physician

Ashish Patel

I will begin a family medicine residency in about 4.5 months, and would like to further my education in the mean time. I would like to start start a CCO course, as I have no other obligations until I begin my residency. I have been interested in learning the business aspect of outpatient primary care, which will likely be my future career setting. I have seen so many things such as CPC, COC, CPPM, CFPC, etc but i'm confused which is best for me. Among my goals of certification in Billing/Coding is to maximize my efficiency in documentation, and to have knowledge sufficient to communicate with medical billing/coding staff. Thank you in advance for your help.

CPC would be the place to start as it goes over all aspects of professional coding.
