CPC vs. CCS

Hi

Just wanted to know the difference between the Certified Professional Coder offered through AAPC and the Certified Coding Specialist offered through AHIMA.

Do they require different education/training/course for each??
Which one is more common or sought after by employers??
Is one a higher experience level or higher pay grade??
In your opinion, which would you recommend??

Thanks in advance for any info... Have a good one All!! :)

While there is overlap between the 2 tests, the CPC is more for an entry level coder, and the CCS is for someone with considerable coding experience. You can tell by the eligibility requirements... Here is some information which gives you an idea about the rigorous CCS exam. https://www.cco.us/faq/does-cco-have-a-ccscic-course/ Notice the eligibility requirements for the CCS; in contrast, anyone who pays the price for the CPC can take it (twice) for the fee.

Because the CCS is meant to be a high level test, I would think that those with a CCS generally would be paid at a higher rate than someone with just a CPC.

The CPC is a good way to enter into the world of coding, and then start preparing for the CCS when you are comfortable to take on that challenge.
