Q&A Which I&D code do you use?

How do you know which I&D code to use? There are I&D codes for skin, finger, etc. Example finger abscess would it be 10060 or 26010?

Thanks,
Cathy

10060 - Incision and drainage of abscess (eg, carbuncle, suppurative hidradenitis, cutaneous or subcutaneous abscess, cyst, furuncle, or paronychia); simple or single

26010 - Drainage of finger abscess; simple

I think you want to get to the highest specificity here. I would go with 26010 if all they did was pop it and let it drain out then irrigate it with saline.
