In regards to CEUs, yes. All of CCO’s CEU’s are accepted by the AAPC.
In regardings to Courses, the short answer is no, we are not a AAPC Approved Partner for Courses. We felt, however, it was important to explain exactly what “AAPC Approval” means and how it is obtained since many students have not properly researched this status and it is an important part of finding a training organzation.
When an individual or organization purchases a yearly AAPC Partner (PMCC) License, they are granted “AAPC Approved” status along with permission to use the logo. The approval and license can be obtained by anyone that meets the following requirements (source):
- Must be an AAPC certified member in good standing.
- Must have at least five (5) years of medical coding experience.
- Must complete an Instructor’s Course.
- Instructors teaching our CPC must hold a CPC certification.
In addition, there is a significant annual fee that must be paid as well as individual “per seat” fees for each student an organization enrolls. The fees are not publicly disclosed and, like any contract, the AAPC can increase their fees year-to-year.
In addition to being granted a “AAPC Approved” partner, the AAPC also grants these individuals and organizations access to AAPC’s teaching materials including their videos and exams for the credential they’re licensing. So, for example, AAPC PMCC Partners that purchase the CPC license can use and sell the AAPC-created CPC Course videos and exams.
What does this mean for students? Students should be aware that some “AAPC Approved” content providers might simply be reselling AAPC courses and exams with little customization. Students should perform due diligence and research whether they are buying a truly unique course with proper coaching or if they are simply purchasing the same AAPC course many other “AAPC Approved” Partners are also selling in the marketplace.
After considerable deliberation, CCO renounced their AAPC PMCC License status on December 31st, 2018. Since that date, we have not been “AAPC Approved” nor are their plans to repurchase the license in the future.
This decision was made because CCO started offering CPC Exam Preparation Review Blitzes in 1999 and since that time, our CPC Certified Instructors have always created unique and helpful content, video lectures, exams and training for students. Our students loved our “warm and fuzzy” content and we decided to stick with our core material starting January 1st, 2019.
Along the way, we became the only organization in our marketplace that has created over 1000+ helpful videos for the medical professional community with over 4 million views and 31,000 subscribers.
