“This Is a Private Space” Error When Opening BHAT or Course Files

Trying to open your BHAT® files (or another course area) and seeing a message like “This is a private space. Members have to be invited to this space”? Don’t worry — this almost always means your account just needs to be connected to that space, not that anything is wrong with your purchase.

Why this happens: Some content lives in a members-only space inside CCO Academy (Circle). If your access to that specific space hasn’t been added yet — or you’re signed in with a different email than the one on your purchase — Circle shows the “private space” message.

Try these steps first:

• Make sure you’re signed in through the CCO Portal with the same email you used when you purchased.
• From the portal, open CCO Academy and look for the BHAT (or course) space in your space list rather than using an old bookmark or direct link.
• If you just purchased, allow a little time for access to finish setting up, then refresh.

If you’ve confirmed you’re using the right account and still see the “private space” message, your access simply needs to be added to that space. Open the AI Help Desk chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of the cco.us home page or inside CCO Academy, tell us which product or space you’re trying to reach (for example, your BHAT files), and we’ll get you connected — or pass it to a person who can grant access.
