Question: Is Medical Billing and Coding In Demand?
I was recently discharged from the military during boot camp. Im home now and looking to get into the medical field. I want to first go to school for Medical Billing and Coding. I was wondering are these jobs in demand right now. Will it be hard for me to find a job doing billing or coding once I graduate with my certificate and get a medical billing certification?
Answer: Yes, Medical Coding and Billing is in Demand.
Yes, medical coding and billing is in demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is projected that medical billing and coding jobs will grow 8% through 2029, which is double the national average. The increase in demand is attributed to the aging population, advances in medical technology, the growing healthcare industry, and due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The option to work remote has also expanded and created new opportunities for medical coders and billers. I also came across an article that mentioned that due to the projected increase in demand for medical billing coders, there may not be enough coders, if not enough people enter and stay in the profession.
You want to broaden your focus to include the clinical side as well. I’m a Medical Assistant and can do labs, triage patients, administer shots, draw blood, etc. I also do medical billing and coding. If you study both clinical and administrative then you have a better chance.
